New Jersey Food Council Committees
The committee structure of the New Jersey Food Council is essential to the success of this association. NJFC members are invited and encouraged to actively participate in committees of interest. EBT/WIC Advisory Committee
Objectives: To promote and oversee the growth, and successful management of Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) within the New Jersey merchant community.
Emergency Management Task Force
Objectives: To work with the New Jersey State Police and officials from the New Jersey Departments of Agriculture, Health and Transportation to develop a strategy for catastrophic emergency situations that might disrupt the food supply.
Energy Issues Committee
Objectives: To address utility restructuring measures, explore utility reform options and provide best strategy position to advise the membership on shopping for power. The committee works with a NJFC energy aggregation consultant to negotiate energy supply contracts and recommends policies for the NJFC Energy Aggregation Group.
Objectives: To encourage NJFC member participation in various aspects of sound solid waste policy; and study and make recommendations on source reduction as it pertains to product and packaging development. A Sub-committee is the Composting Task Force.
Food Safety and Quality Committee
Objectives: To work closely with the Department of Health on the revision of the food code regulations; to work with government partners on food safety issues and to implement the Food Handlers Training Grant Project.
Objectives: To provide guidance on Board recruitment, expectations, selection, nomination, participation, evaluation, and termination, and take full responsibility for Board Membership.
Government Affairs / Tax Policy Committee
Objectives: To identify NJFC legislative and regulatory agenda; recommend legislative positions; analyze the current taxation policies which impact food retailers and distributors in New Jersey; assist in research and testimony before legislative and regulatory agencies; develop contacts with legislators and state officials; and to suggest changes to current policies to create a more business friendly regulatory structure.
Healthcare Working Group / Labor Issues Committee
Objectives: To provide guidance and information to address healthcare and health insurance issues that may impact our members during the implementation of the Affordable Care Act; to share ideas and research on labor issues employers face; to understand the complex legal and regulatory environment for food industry employers in New Jersey; and to recommend legislative and regulatory proposals which impact employment practices.
Loss Prevention Committee
Objectives: To share information on loss prevention and security issues; recommend legislative positions on security issues; and promote the Loss Prevention Conference and Exhibition.
Organized Retail Theft Task Force
Objectives: To utilize this unique public/private crime fighting partnership to improve information sharing and intelligence gathering techniques in order to reduce the burdens of theft on the retail community.
Safety/Risk Management Committee
Objectives: To strategize and discuss state and federal legislation and regulation dealing with insurance, liability, OSHA, ergonomics, and worker’s compensation.
Trade Relations Committee
Objectives: To promote communications and better understanding among the food industry trade; develop program and promotion of Annual Golf Outing and Trade Relations Conference; and assist in building membership through trade contacts.
Weights & Measures Task Force
Objectives: To promote communication and better understanding between members and State and County Weights & Measures agencies.
